Technology and Equipment

Technology must deliver a repeatable result.

Modern equipment alone does not guarantee bearing quality. The result is shaped by the combination of the production route, tooling, processing parameters, measurement, and checkpoints.

At OID, equipment is treated as part of a unified technological system — from forming the blank and working surfaces to assembly and verification of the finished product's parameters.

What shapes bearing performance

01

Geometry

Turning, grinding, and precision forming of working and mounting surfaces.

02

Material

Controlled heat treatment determines the part's structure, hardness, and stability.

03

Working surface

Finishing operations form the required profile and contact-surface condition.

04

Internal system

Cage, component matching, clearance, and preload determine how the assembled bearing performs.

05

Measurement

Geometric, material, and functional measurements confirm the result of the production process.

1. Machining

Geometry begins before grinding.

CNC machining forms the part's technological base: mounting diameters, end faces, grooves, chamfers, and the preliminary geometry of future raceways.

The purpose of this stage is not simply to achieve a dimension, but to prepare a stable part for the subsequent heat treatment and precision grinding.

Formed

  • mounting surfaces;
  • faces and shoulders;
  • grooves;
  • preliminary profiles;
  • technological datums;
  • allowances for subsequent operations.

Checked

  • dimensions;
  • concentricity;
  • shape;
  • surface position;
  • machining allowance.

2. Controlled heat treatment

Material properties are determined by the process.

Heat-treatment technology is selected based on the material, part size, and the requirements of the specific product.

OID's production system includes automated heating and cooling processes with control of process parameters.

CapabilityWhat it forms
Through-hardeningRequired material properties through the cross-section
Induction hardening (HF)A working hardened layer in a defined zone
Tempering and stabilizationRequired structural condition and dimensional stability
Controlled atmosphereProcess stability and surface condition
Programmable cycleRepeatability of heating and cooling parameters
04

3. Precision grinding

Bearing precision is formed in the working geometry.

After heat treatment, final machining of the raceways, mounting diameters, and end faces is carried out.

OID applies machining technologies for

  • raceways;
  • internal and external mounting surfaces;
  • end faces;
  • rollers and other rolling elements;
  • large-size rings;
  • special profiles.

The production facility includes CNC grinding, face-grinding, centerless, and superfinishing operations.

What geometry determines in operation

ParameterWhat it affects
OvalityLoad distribution around the circumference
TaperFit and position of the ring
RunoutRotational stability
Raceway profileDistribution of contact stresses
Mounting diameterInterference fit and interaction with the shaft or housing
RoughnessContact conditions, friction, and lubricant-film performance

4. Finishing of working surfaces

The final operation can change contact behavior.

For products where this is specified by technical requirements, additional finishing of the working surfaces is applied after grinding.

It is used to achieve the required

  • micro-profile;
  • raceway condition;
  • roughness;
  • contact stability;
  • performance in high-speed and precision assemblies.

Finishing levels

DesignTypical surface range*
Ground working surfaceRa approx. 0.2–0.4 μm
Superfinish on requestRa approx. 0.05–0.1 μm

* The specific requirement is set by the product's technical documentation.

5. Cage manufacturing technologies

The cage is a separate technological component.

Depending on the design, different technologies are used to manufacture metal and polymer cages.

01

Stamping

For standard and special metal designs.

02

Machining

For solid and special cages.

03

Polymer molding

For corresponding polymer designs.

04

Special coatings

For designs requiring modified surface or friction conditions.

07

6. Large-size machining

As diameter increases, the process becomes more sensitive to every deviation.

For large-size rings, the following must be taken into account

  • the part's own deformation;
  • fixturing method;
  • thermal stability;
  • uniformity of heat treatment;
  • raceway profile accuracy;
  • geometry retention after machining;
  • measurement of large diameters.

OID has confirmed experience in manufacturing and designing bearings with a mounting diameter of approximately 500–1600 mm. For large-size products, grinding of large raceways, heat treatment, cage manufacturing, and geometric inspection are provided for.

02

Up to Ø1000 mm

7. Measurement infrastructure

A production operation ends with measuring its result.

At OID, measurement infrastructure is used to confirm parameters directly during the production process.

Technological capabilities

OID presents technological capabilities, not a list of machines.

For the customer, what matters more than the equipment brand is

  • which operation can be performed;
  • which parameter it forms;
  • how it is checked;
  • how reproducible the result is;
  • whether the process can be adapted for a special product.
11

A special product requires a special route

If the standard production route does not meet the assembly's requirements, the following can be separately agreed for the product

  • material;
  • heat treatment;
  • raceway profile;
  • roughness;
  • cage;
  • internal clearance;
  • precision class;
  • coating;
  • measurement and inspection program.
