OID / Engineering

We start with the operating conditions of the assembly.

Bearing selection is determined by more than the designation and mounting dimensions. Load, rotational speed, temperature, fits, internal clearance, lubrication, and the stiffness of mating parts are treated as a single calculation system.

OID performs selection of standard designs and engineering development of special solutions for industrial equipment.

01

What we calculate and verify

Design selection

Selecting the type, size series, and design for the actual radial, axial, and moment loads, speed, temperature, and environmental conditions.

Load and service life

Determining the equivalent load, checking static safety, and estimating the rated bearing life for the given operating regime.

Fits and internal clearance

Checking shaft and housing fits, initial and operating clearance, accounting for interference, thermal expansion, and deformation of mating parts.

Lubrication and temperature

Selecting lubricant type and viscosity, assessing conditions for lubricant film formation, delivery method, and temperature regime.

Mounting and commissioning

Recommendations on heating, mounting tools, fixation, clearance measurement, preload, and condition monitoring after installation.

Failure analysis and assembly audit

Analysis of damage based on parts, photos, and operating data. Checking load, fits, lubrication, temperature, and shaft/housing condition.

What data is needed for selection

Input dataWhat is helpful to provide
Bearing / assemblyDesignation of the existing bearing or a drawing of the assembly
LoadsRadial Fr, axial Fa, moment Mt, peak and shock loads
SpeedNominal, minimum, and maximum rotational speed
Operating regimeContinuous or variable duty, cycle duration
TemperatureBearing, shaft, housing, and ambient environment
Shaft and housingDiameters, fits, material, tolerances, geometry
Internal clearanceRequired class or measured values before/after mounting
LubricationOil or grease, viscosity, delivery method, and frequency
Service lifeRequired operating hours, cycles, or revolutions
PrecisionRequirements for runout, noise, vibration, and rotational accuracy
EnvironmentWater, dust, chemical exposure, vacuum, electrical currents, etc.
ConstraintsDimensions, weight, mounting, maintenance

Not all the data is known yet?

That's normal for a preliminary request.

Send what information you have — the designation of the existing bearing, a drawing, or a photo of the assembly. Any missing input data will be clarified during technical follow-up.

04

What the customer receives

Recommended design

Type, size series, internal clearance, precision class, cage, and any special requirements.

Calculated parameters

Equivalent load, static safety, calculated service life, and other applicable parameters.

Mating requirements

Recommendations on shaft and housing fits, operating clearance, precision, and mounting geometry.

Operating conditions

Recommendations on lubrication, temperature, mounting, inspection, and maintenance.

05

Three independent checks

CheckKey question
Service lifeHow long can the bearing operate under repeated loading?
Static safetyAre the maximum and shock loads within allowable limits?
Minimum loadIs stable rolling without slippage ensured?

And below the table:

A high calculated service life does not replace checking static safety and minimum load.

06

A separate model is applied for special designs

Rolling bearings

Load, service life, static safety, minimum load, fits, and operating clearance.

Slewing bearings

Combined assessment of radial and axial load and tilting moment; the geometry of the supporting structure and fasteners are considered separately.

Plain bearings

Load, pressure, sliding speed, contact-pair material, temperature, and lubrication conditions.

Special and combined designs

The calculation scheme is determined by the geometry of the specific product and the conditions of the assembly.

07

In case of bearing failure

Engineering failure analysis

For a preliminary failure assessment, it is helpful to provide:

  • photos of the raceways, rolling elements, and cage;
  • marking and batch number;
  • load and speed data;
  • temperature and vibration readings before shutdown;
  • lubricant data;
  • mounting and dismounting method;
  • fits and shaft/housing condition;
  • internal clearance or preload;
  • operating time before symptoms appeared.
