Methodology and limits of applicability

Model of the initial, residual and operating radial clearance

Δoper = Δinit − δi − δe − Δtherm
Δtherm = α · ΔT · Dpw · 1000, µm

Input coefficients and requirements must correspond to the specific construction and duty. Missing values are never substituted automatically.

A measured clearance and a class range are different kinds of input. The model does not automatically account for misalignment, centrifugal force, or arbitrary housing deformation.

What limits this calculation:

  • reference clearance ranges for families other than standard single-row radial ball bearings
  • ki and ke coefficients for a hollow shaft, and a light or thin-walled housing
