Cylindrical roller bearings

Cylindrical roller bearings are used where high radial load capacity and stiffness are required within limited radial space. Differences in the arrangement of the ring flanges determine whether a specific design can axially locate the shaft or accommodate its displacement.

Locating or floating support

Designs such as N, NU, NJ, NUP, and other variants perform different functions within the support system. Identical dimensions therefore do not mean interchangeability: the direction of axial location and the possibility of thermal shaft expansion must be taken into account.

What determines the CRB design

  • Radial load.
  • Required radial stiffness.
  • Need for axial location.
  • Required axial shaft displacement.
  • Rotational speed.
  • Internal clearance.
  • Ring fits.
  • Locating and floating support arrangement.
